Welcome to Sweet Larissa's
I have enjoyed cooking and baking since I was a child. My memere taught me the art of baking a perfect cake, and I was hooked! There was just something about creating such a simple and tasty treat. At a young age I was intrigued by Julia Child, Jeff Smith - The Frugal Gourmet, and Graham Kerr as the Galloping Gourmet. They all made cooking and baking look so easy, and fun! As I watched, I would tell myself to remember the ideas and techniques. I would need them someday; when I became a chef or baker. Woman's Day and Family Circle magazines were always around the house. I would fold pages that intrested me and keep the books tucked away.
My parents were pretty understanding of my intrest in baking. I'd make cookies and cakes for us to share and at times I would whip up frostings and batters and hide the results in my room. I'd assume my parents had to know, but I was only questioned a handful of times. Experimenting with flavors and recipes, my brothers and their friends became my guinea pigs. I began understanding flavors and textures and how to use them to compliment one another. Little by little I taught myself tricks and short cuts and learned from my mistakes. Baking with friends I gained experience in different cultures and styles of cooking. Inevidably, my saved magazines were tossed and I've long forgotten the recipes and ideas I wanted so badly to remember. I'm sure some of my style is due to the PBS cooking shows I watched through out my childhood. All of those experiences and memories are what have made me all that I am today.
